4. Slides: Knocknaboul/ I'd rather be married than living alone.
These two slides came from the playing of Johnny O' Leary and his daughter Ellen. Johnny, who died this year at the age of 80, was a great musician and a great character. His rhythmical and musical style with lots of very complicated sequences of notes was immediately recognizable and unique. His dedication to the mountain music in that district where the Cork, Kerry and Limerick counties meet was an example to all music lovers. I myself will always be grateful to him for all the tunes and the countless hours full of stories and anecdotes.

Brilliant tunes, played brilliantly. Great recording too - well worth listening with headphones to take advantage of the stereo fun.

Bright and skipping songs that foreground the sound of the banjo and fingerstyle guitar in music that feels timeless. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 5, 2020
